Internship Summer 2024 placed high school students with GenSea partners at blue economy worksites, where they learned real-life job tasks under the direction of a scientist or engineer. Interns selected for the program earned an award of $1,000-1,500 and spent 4-6 weeks at the following sites:

  • University of Southern Mississippi: Gulf Park campus in Long Beach, Division of Marine Science at Stennis Space Center, and the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs

  • Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension Center

  • National Park Service’s Gulf Islands National Seashore Davis Bayou Welcome Center in Ocean Springs

As part of the program, interns attended a resume-building workshop supported by the Environmental Protection Agency and shared aspects of completed internships at a mock academic poster session at the conclusion of the program.
